New Commitment!

According to Scout.com, offensive guard, Zach Myers, committed to the Kentucky Wildcats. Myers is from Miamisburg HS in Miamisburg, Ohio. He is listed at 6-foot-4 and 275 pounds. Zach reportedly landed the offer at the second Blue Lights Camp. His father is Brad Myers, a former Kentucky Wildcat. He also had offers from Toledo, Kent State and Ohio University in addition to the interest he was receiving from others. Zach becomes the tenth known commitment and the first from Ohio.

Cats Offer Specialist

According to Keith Niebuhr of Rivals.com, Kentucky has offered punter/kicker, Landon Foster, of Independence High School in Franklin (TN). This surprises me for a number of reasons. Offers aren’t always extended to specialists. Different schools have different approaches, but I’m not the biggest fan. UK already has one scholarship wrapped up in kicker, Joe Mansour. I trust the staff, but my thoughts are a little different.

  • Kings HS (OH) RB Jamire Westbrook is the cousin of NFL running back, Brian. Westbrook committed to Miami (OH) after receiving some serious interest from UK.
  • According to 247sports, UK is in the pole position for GA RB Shadrach Thornton. It will be interesting to see who ends up committing to UK as so many are high on the Wildcats.
  • Brian Eldridge says that VA LB Devin Vandyke will be visiting UK today and tomorrow which is a huge development. The Cats never have luck in Virginia and getting a visit from such a talented player is a step in the right direction.
  • Kentucky basketball recruit, IN SF Gary Harris, also has an offer to play wide receiver fro the Cats according to Jody Demling.

Recruiting Updates

Hey everyone! Sorry my posts haven’t been as frequent as usual. I went to Universal Studios today and let me say, go to Cedar Point. Kentucky is in good shape with a number of cornerbacks: Jonathon Jones, Devontre Parnell and one that gets a little less publicity, Jadarius West.

  • GA CB Jadarius West‘s head coach told me that UK is firmly in his top three. Coach also told me that his teammate and fellow cornerback, Devon Miller, is also receiving a lot of Kentucky interest. Miller claims Kentucky as his leader and his coach cited Kentucky coach Tee Martin as the reason why. Shocking, I know.
  • GA RB Charles Purnell visited Kentucky this summer according to his coach.
  • If it hasn’t been announced, former Kentucky recruit and Miami (FL) transfer, Storm Johnson, is likely headed to Central Florida I was told. UK never got back in the mix.
  • Not that it matters, but it sounds like Kentucky made an offer to Apopka HS (FL) center, Ty Darlington, before he committed to the Oklahoma Sooners.
  • LSU, Florida, Miami (FL) and Alabama are currently the top four for MS DT Nick James. LSU is presumed to be the leader.

Recruiting Updates

  • SC DL Martin Aiken chose Clemson today. He held an offer from Kentucky.
  • GA DL Jhaustin Thomas is down to four schools: South Carolina, Clemson, Florida and Alabama. He also held an offer from Kentucky.
  • IN OT Jake Meador chose Ole Miss. Many UK fans assumed we were the leader.
  • FL CB Chris Bivins committed to South Florida on a visit this past weekend. He recently placed UK in his top five.
  • Kentucky picked up a late addition in the form of Fork Union Prep’s Travaughn Paschal. Paschal is a 6’4, 245 pound defensive end that apparently runs a 4.5. He also held offers from Pittsburgh and NC State. Paschal will be able to play this fall if he isn’t redshirted.

New Cats in the NBA!

In case anyone missed it, four Kentucky Wildcats (three if you are ESPN or the NCAA) were drafted into the NBA this past Thursday night. Enes Kanter went off the board first at #3 to the Utah Jazz. Brandon Knight then followed soon after at #8 to Detroit, where he will join former Wildcat, Tayshaun Prince.  Two other Cats would come off the board in the 2nd round at picks 45 and 53 to the New York Knicks and Orlando Magic respectively. Congrats to all the former Wildcats former! Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat. So don’t be shy.

FL LB Set to Take in Lexington

I can’t really say a whole lot right now, but FL LB Ey’Shawn McClain said he intends to visit West Virginia, Cincinnati and Kentucky this fall and that will hopefully lead to a decision. West Virginia, the Iowa schools and Rutgers are always formidable opponents in battles for Florida kids, so don’t overlook them.

KY S/LB Jeremy Clark chose to accept a greyshirt offer to the University of Michigan. He camped at UK recently. He told Scout.com that new offers won’t change his decision.

That’s all for now!

One Down, Another In (Offer Out)

TN DE Caleb Azubike announced today that he would decide next week between Boston College, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt is the presumed leader. So with one defensive end presumably off the board, the Cats extended an offer to another to fill the void. Sheldon Rankins is a 6-foot-3, 260 pound defensive end/tackle out of Eastside HS in Covington, Georgia. Rankin also holds offers from Boston College, Louisville, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Illinois, Stanford and more.

  • Azubike isn’t the only Tennessee prospect expected to announce next week. According to Andrew Bone of Scout.com, fellow UK targets, RB Brian Kimbrow and WR Cory Batey, will also be making their commitments next week with Caleb. Among others that could make a decision include, OT Andrew Jelks, OT Blake Bars, WR Drae Bowles and CB Josh Shelton. All are players of interest to UK, but only Shelton does not have an offer from Kentucky.

The Perception of Kentucky Football

I know there was an article recently where Joker was interviewed about the perception of the UK football program. In that article, he says that he thinks the perception of the program is changing. I agree with him overall. I’m finding that players and coaches are really impressed with the campus and the facilities at Kentucky when they visit. The code of recruiting includes; “If you get the player on campus, you have a chance.” This has been the case particularly in Kentucky’s instance, because recruits were not expecting what they are finding. However, the perception of UK’s program in the south still has a long ways to go before Kentucky will become a common force in recruiting. It is changing for the better, but not rapidly. I still think Kentucky football would benefit greatly from another outstanding recruiter like Tee Martin.

  • TN DE Caleb Azubike will announce between Vanderbilt, Boston College and Mississippi State next week. Expect Vanderbilt. I’ve heard that they are about to land a couple of in-state kids in the next two weeks. Caleb is the cousin of Collins Ukwu, so this is a little frustrating. On another note, how about Vandy recruiting? McGriff and James Franklin have made the world of a difference in Nashville.
  • OH CB Cody Quinn committed to Illinois. He was high on UK and UK had offered. I don’t think this is a big loss as we have a number of other CB’s high on us.
  • AL OL Robert Leff committed to Southern Mississippi in light of an offer from Kentucky. The Golden Eagles always seem to steal a few recruits for whatever reason.
  • If I haven’t said it, FL OL James Hamilton committed to the Florida State Seminoles. FSU recently came through with an offer and Hamilton chose to stay home. He was high on UK.

Donald Hawkins Update

Kentucky received a visit from one highliy recruited junior college offensive lineman this past weekend in the form of offensive guard, Darone Bailey. However, Bailey isn’t the only junior college target that UK has on the offensive line. Donald Hawkins have discussed playing on the same offensive line in college and Kentucky gives them that opportunity. Both have received offers from the Southeastern Conference institution. Nation of Blue caught up with Donald to talk about where Kentucky stands with him. You can read that article HERE.

  • According to Phil Kornblut, UK will receive a visit from rising TN DB Will Redmond and it is not out of the question that UK will offer.
  • TN OL Graham Shuler has committed to play for the Stanford Cardinals. UK was a little late to the party on this one. If he hadn’t chosen Stanford, then it probably would have been Vanderbilt, so tread carefully.
  • LA DT Leonard Washington told Keith Niebuhr at Rivals.com that he thought UK will be his next offer.
  • OH CB Kevin Houchins chose the Louisville Cardinals. He had no offer from UK, but was receiving interest.
